Those annual conversations about New Years Resolutions have been a constant at dinner time for the last few days in our household.
With roughly 60% of all 2022 New Years Resolutions in the UK expected to be related to Health & Self Improvement, we’ve pulled together a few ideas for those of you looking for inspiration for Next Year.
These options are aimed at giving you easy ways to experience more of the great British outdoors in a sustainable way, and without breaking the bank.
Country Walking 1000 Mile Challenge
For those of you that want to build a good habit, the 1000 mile challenge run by Country Walking magazine is a great way to start getting out a little bit on a regular basis.
Working out at just 2.74 miles per day, you can clock up the amazing 1000 mile total in just 12 months from the day you start. Thats less than 1 hour a day to transform your health and happiness!
There are both free and paid options available on the Country Walking website, and for January we’re offering £10 off orders over £100 for our partner brands that are sponsoring the event this year with code 1000MILES.
Couch to 5K
Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit. The NHS Couch to 5K program will help you gradually work up towards running 5km in just 9 weeks.
The program is completely free and you can either download the app to take part, or listen to individual podcast episodes for each day of training.
With 3 runs per week and a day of rest between each, the program allows participants to gradually build their running ability in a controlled manner.
At the end of the 9 weeks, you can then start looking at some of the fantastic local parkrun events around the country to take your running journey further.
OS Maps App
For either of the above activities, and for your other countryside adventures, we’d also encourage you to check out the OS Maps app.
There is a subscription fee for the premium version, but it's a great way to get access to all 607 OS Explorer and OS Landranger maps for the whole of Great Britain.
The app also stores thousands of local walking, running & cycling routes ready for you to use, and lets you build your own route if you want to get off the beaten track. You can also print your routes or download them for offline viewing.
Not only that, but using your device’s GPS signal, the app will guide you on your chosen route, giving you an indication of time & distance left to completion.
