A pair of sleeping pad sleeves in the base hold single pads in place for a slip-free sleep and replace unnecessary bottom insulation for a lighter weight with reduced bulk. A lightweight 20D nylon ripstop shell and liner further keeps the pack weight low.

The Backcountry Bed features Sierra Designs' patented zipperless design. In place of a zip that can add weight and restrict movement, it features an oversized integrated comforter on each side that works with insulated hand/arm pockets to keep the comforter wrapped around your body while you sleep. This effectively seals out drafts to deliver the next level in comfort without the feeling of being confined. For warmer weather camping, each comforter can simply be folded out of the way as you would a duvet allowing each sleeper to choose their level of warmth.
